Materials needed for the Ribbed Fringe Scarf
Start your scarf project, you will need a skein of yarn. For this project, a worsted medium-weight yarn (Category 4) is what is needed.
1. One full skein of Lion Brand Gradient Mandala was used in the sample. Substituting a different yarn you may need more than 1 skein. A note about this specific yarn; it is a very thick worsted weight. Meaning some yarns in the same category may not work as well but some yarns in a category 5 bulky weight may work if it is a thinner bulky.
2. You will also need a crochet hook that matches the gauge within the pattern with your tension. To make sure your scarf looks as close to the sample, be sure to crochet a gauge swatch and match the gauge within the pattern.

3. Also have on hand some stitch markers, scissors and a yarn needle.

Crochet Stitches and Techniques
This crochet winter scarf uses 2 main stitches thoughtout. The slip stitch and the single crochet stitch.
The body of the scarf is a 1 row repeat and the fringe is worked as part of the scarf when it is being crocheted.
This stitch pattern is a nice ribbing that adds texture and depth to the finished scarf. You are sure to love this one.

Materials:
- YARN:
- 280 yards of #4 Worsted Weight, Lion Brand Mandala Gradient or suitable substitute (this yarn was on the thicker side for a #4) – if adjusting length or width then yardage requirements will change
- TOOLS:
- US Size (J/10) 6.0 mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge – My favorite crochet hooks are from here

- 11 blo sc x 14 rows = 4”/10 cm
Size:
- Length (includes fringe) = 74”/188 cm; Width = 4.5”/ 11.5 cm
Stitches/Abbreviations: US Terms
- ch – chain
- sts – stitches
- sc – single crochet
- blo – back loop only
Notes:
- This scarf is worked as 1 piece lengthwise.
- Easily adjust the length longer or shorter by chaining a different number than the stated 199. This will change the stitch count for the single crochet stitches.
- Adjust the width by working a different number of repeat rows.
- Keep slip stitches fairly loose.

First Fringe: Ch 15, sl st in second ch from hook, sl st in each ch across. Do not turn. 14 sl st
Row 1: Ch 199, sl st in second ch from hook, sl st in next 13, place st marker in last st worked, sl st in next 4, sc in each across until 4 chs remain before the fringe, sl st in last 4. 176 sc, 22 sl st
Row 2: Ch 15, sl st in second ch from hook, sl st in remaining 13 chs, place st marker in last st worked, blo sl st in next 4, blo sc across to 4 before st marker, blo sl st in 4, remove st marker. 176 sc, 22 sl st
Rows 3-16: Repeat Row 2 – (If you adjust the number of Rows, one scarf end can end up having 1 less fringe than the other end).
Last Fringe: Ch 15, sl st in second ch from hook, sl st in remaining 13 chs, sl st to join to scarf. 14 sl st
Fasten off, weave in ends.
