I love the thought of festive handmade decor for the holidays. This crochet hot pad isn’t just useful but it looks stunning as well.
Work this up for your own home or make a couple up as gifts. Bring it with the dish you make for a gathering and leave the hot pad as a gift for the host.
This hot pad idea came about when I was working on another Christmas design this year. The Holiday Tree Wall Hanging releasing on December 18. When I showed my sister the Tree Wall Hanging she loved it and suggested it’d be nice as a Hot Pad so I decided to try it out as a hot pad.
This pattern is featured in the Holly Jolly Christmas Blog Hop hosted by Nana’s Crafty Home.
Pattern Details:
Yarn:
When you make a crochet hot pad be sure you make them with a cotton yarn. Cotton yarn can withstand heat and is durable. I love cotton yarn for any kitchen or bath items.
This hot pad sample uses Lily Sugar’n Cream yarn. This is about the only thing I use this brand of yarn for. For crochet hot pads and maybe a dish scrubbie.
Other Notes:
A crochet hot pad is typically one of the first projects for a beginner. But his pattern has a difficulty level of Intermediate. If you are a beginner you may find this stitch pattern to be difficult to work with and follow.
This pattern only uses chains, slip stitches, and single crochet stitches so why is the pattern labeled as Intermediate?
Well, first would be the shaping. This shaping involves several different repeats that you need to follow closely. Also, the Spider Stitch used in this design in general can be hard for some to get along with.
If you need help or tips in working the Spider stitch you can find a helpful post HERE.
