Grapevine Pocket Shawl
By now, I’m sure many of you have made the infamous crochet pocket shawl. What is better than a crochet shawl with pockets!? It’s almost like a cardigan but way simpler in my opinion.
The one drawback about some pocket shawls for me is that you have to seam on pockets. I like patterns that can avoid as much seaming and piecing together as possible.
That is how this specific pocket shawl came about. The need to not sew on any pockets. I wanted to have this shawl be worked all in one piece.

Yarn
Now, this specific design has been ready for publication for many many months. When I had the pattern out with testers I found out that the amazing yarn used for this shawl had been discontinued.
This specific yarn was one of my top 5 favorites and I am so sad it will no longer be available. That yarn is Lion Brand ZZ Twist.
This shawl will still work up fine with many different worsted weight #4 yarns. Try swatching several to see what you might like best for it.
You can try Lion Brand Heartland or Caron Simply Soft. Also keep in mind when substituting that ZZ Twist was on the thinner side for a worsted weight yarn so you can even try a light worsted #3 yarn as well.
With that being said, it will be important to check gauge. But if you decide not to check gauge you can always adjust the length of the shawl easily before moving onto the border.

Difficulty
I would consider this pattern to be INTERMEDIATE difficulty.
Some skills and techniques used include – working in rows and rounds, working in the third loop of a stitch, following instructions to create a special stitch and be able to follow several different row instructions and repeats.

Do you offer a shawl with pockets for beginners?
Hi, I do not have one for beginners. The only other pattern with pockets that I have is an Easy Pocket Scarf that is free on my blog.
