{ A simple textured cowl crochet pattern that you’ll love making and wearing }
If you have been following along with my patterns for any time now then you may have noticed one thing a lot of my designs have in common. Texture.
I love adding texture in my designs whether its the entire design or just a small part of the design. This cowl design uses 2 different stitches to create textured stripes which I absolutely LOVE!
Even though a certain crochet stitch may not have much texture itself, it can be paired with another type of crochet stitch to create a textured look as a whole.
This cowl is perfect for those early days of Spring when there is still some chill in the air. Maybe add this as a nice accessory to your Easter outfit this year or wear this in the fall time to your Thanksgiving gatherings!
If you love this design you may also love the Spring Breeze Cowl. You can find the free crochet pattern HERE.
This design also uses some hand dyed yarn from my favorite Indie Dyer – Lindsay from ThreadHead Knits Co. The yarn used in this design is the colorway Handwritten on the Luxe Bulky base which is 100% Baby Alpaca.

Notes:
- The main body of the cowl is worked in rows and the edging is worked in rounds.
- The body of the cowl is worked in the back loop only.
- Ch 2 does not count as a stitch.
- When working the edging you will join with a slip stitch to the first stitch in that round.
- IMPORTANT: Make sure your slip stitches within the pattern aren’t too tight.

Instructions:
Ch 26.
Row 1: (RS) Edc in 3rd ch from hook, edc in each ch across, turn – 24 sts.
REMINDER: Keep your tension loose when working the slip stitches. If you need to, you can work those rows in a larger hook size.
Rows 2-4: Working in the blo from here on, ch 1, sl st in each st across, turn – 24 sts.
Row 5: Ch 2, work the first and last st in both loops and the rest in the blo, edc in each st across, turn – 24 sts.
Rows 6-89: Repeat Rows 2-5. Do not fasten off or turn.
Rectangle should measure approximately 34” L x 7” W at this point. You can lightly block at this point before starting the edging if needed.
Edging:
Round 1: Ch 1, sc evenly around placing 3 sc in each corner, join with a sl st. Fasten off leaving a LONG tail for seaming. Follow notes under photos for seaming.

Image 1: Lay with wrong side facing up and working yarn at the upper left corner. Fold right side down.

Image 2: Then fold left half down over right side lining up the corners to create a center point. Using LONG tail, seam the bottom section of the cowl (see arrows).
