Several years ago I was introduced to crochet towel toppers. I purchased a few kitchen hand towels and crocheted a topper on them. I still have them and use them everyday in my kitchen.
But, as I made my own crochet towel toppers I encountered 2 problems with this style towel topper.
The first problem is piercing the holes into the towel to start crocheting the topper. If you don’t have a special rotary blade cutter that can do that for you then it can be difficult to create those holes.
Now, the second problem is the crocheted towel topper holding up after many washes in the washer and dryer.
It does not look as nice once it has been washed over and over. This may not be a problem for some if they only use these towels as a decor piece but I use these as actual hand towels and not just decor.

Now, several years after making my first crochet towel topper comes this style crochet kitchen towel holder.
I absolutely love this design because there is no need to worry about sewing on any buttons!
Another reason I like this design for a crochet towel holder is because you do not need to wash the towel ring over and over since it is not permanently attached to a towel.

These crochet towel holders would make a perfect quick gift for someone. You can crochet them in any colors. Create seasonal colored towel toppers or create ones to go along with the theme of a kitchen.
These are also very quick to make if you sell crochet items at craft fairs. Many times people are looking for gifts when attending a craft show. If you have some crochet towel holders at your table paired with a nice hand towel they’d be a very nice gift for someone to purchase.
This crochet towel ring does not require you to sew on a button. The way this towel holder works is by a keyhole feature. A keyhole is where the ruffle part of this towel ring goes through to be hung on an oven handle or cabinet handle.
This pattern uses a worsted weight cotton yarn. With any crochet kitchen item I love to use cotton.

Crochet Kitchen Towel Holder Pattern:
Materials:
- Yarn: #4 Worsted Weight – I Love This Cotton in any 2 colors – Main Color (A) & Contrasting Color (B)
- Hook: US Size (G/6) 4.0 mm crochet hook
- Other Tools: Hair Elastic, Yarn Needle, Scissors
Difficulty:
- Easy
Stitches/Abbreviations: US Terms
- ch – chain
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- blo – back loop only
- sl st – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
Notes:
- This is worked from the bottom up starting at the ring.
- The ring is formed using a hair elastic that you crochet around. See tutorial HERE if you need help on how to crochet around a ring.
- Ch 1 & ch 2 do not count as a stitch.

Instructions:
With A, attach yarn to hair elastic. – (To do this create your slip knot, put the slip knot on the inside of the hair elastic, insert hook in slip knot, while holding the elastic and working yarn in the same hand grab the working yarn with your hook by yarning over, pull the working yarn through the slip knot. This attaches your yarn around the hair elastic to begin working Row 1. For picture tutorial click HERE.)
Row 1: Ch 1, 38 hdc around ring, join with a sl st to first st – 38 hdc.
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in next 9, turn – 9 hdc.
Row 3: Ch 2, in blo hdc in each st across, turn – 9 hdc.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in next 3, ch 3, skip 3, sc in next 3, turn – 6 sc, 3 chs.
Row 5: Ch 2, in blo hdc in each st and ch space across, turn – 9 hdc.
Rows 6-13: Ch 2, in blo hdc in each st across, turn – 9 hdc.
Row 14: Ch 2, in blo 3 hdc in each st across, turn – 27 hdc.
Row 15: Ch 2, (hdc, ch 1, hdc) in each st across, turn – 54 hdc, 27 chs. Fasten off A.
Row 16: Attach B, ch 1, in blo of each st and ch space sl st in each st and ch space across.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
How to use:
Add towel to ring, attach to stove or cabinet handle by weaving the top ruffle through the keyhole.
