Materials needed for an Easy Keyhole Scarf
To start your keyhole scarf project, you will need a skein of yarn. For this project, a DK Light Worsted yarn (Category 3) is what is needed.
Swish DK Yarn from We Crochet/Knit Picks was used for this project. This yarn is a very nice 100% Fine Superwash Merino Wool with 123 yards per skein. This scarf project can also be perfect for that special skein of hand dyed yarn you have just waiting in your stash.
You will also need a crochet hook that matches the gauge within the pattern with your tension. To make sure your scarf looks as close to the sample as possible, be sure to crochet a gauge swatch and match the gauge within the pattern.

Crochet Stitches and Techniques Used
This crochet keyhole scarf uses 3 main stitches throughout. The double crochet stitch, single crochet stitch and the chain stitch.
This pattern also utilizes a beginning double crochet stitch which is also referred to as a stacked single crochet.
This crochet scarf is worked lengthwise in rows. The keyhole feature is unique in that it has several openings in which the scarf is weaved through.

- 240 yards total of #3 DK Weight, Swish DK – 100% Fine Superwash Merino Wool or suitable substitute
- TOOLS:
- US Size (H/8) 5.0 mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge – My favorite crochet hooks are from here
- Yarn Needle, Scissors
Gauge:
- 17 sts x 11 rows of pattern = 4”/10 cm
Size:
- Length = 36”/91 cm; Width = 9”/ 23 cm
Stitches/Abbreviations: US Terms
- ch – chain
- sts – stitches
- sk – skip
- sp – space
- sc – single crochet
- hdc – half double crochet
- dc – double crochet
- fsc – foundation single crochet
- Special Stitch: beginning double crochet (beg dc) = do not ch to start (unless noted in pattern), sc in first st, sc in left vertical bar of sc just made (aka – stacked single crochet)
Notes:
- This scarf is worked lengthwise.
- This scarf width can be adjusted by working more or less of the stated repeats. Adjusting the pattern can affect the yardage needed.
- Ch 1 at the start of a row does not count as a stitch.

Flourish Keyhole Scarf Pattern
Instructions:
Row 1: Ch 140, sc in second ch from hook, sc in each ch across, turn. 139 sc
OR
FSC 139 sts.
Row 2: Ch 1 hdc in first, ch 12, sk 12, sc 2, *ch 2 sk 2, dc 2; repeat from * across, turn. 74 chs, 65 sts
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first, sc in next, *ch 2, sk 2, sc 2; repeat from * across to ch 12 sp, sc in each ch sp, hdc in last, turn. 62 dc, 14 sc, 31 ch-2 sps, 1 hdc
Rows 4-24: Repeat Rows 2-3, stop after a Row 2 repeat.
Row 25: Ch 1, sc in first, sc across in each st and ch sp. 139 sts
Rotate to work along short edge of hdc sts.
Ch 1, sc evenly along edge. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Optional Finishing:
Steam block or wet block scarf.
How to wear:
Weave a finger in and out of the spaces of the keyholes to create an opening, put the scarf around neck and then pull through that opening.
