This crochet chemo hat pattern is part of the Crochet Cancer Challenge hosted by Sweet Potato 3.
I love when this event comes around each year for several reasons.
The first reason I love this event is because it is for a great cause. I love being able to use my crochet skills to benefit someone else.
The second reason I love this event is because it brings together people in the crochet and fiber arts community. All working on something that matters together.
The final reason I love this event is because as a crochet designer able to participate, it challenges me to create an awesome hat design.
Last year I decided on a top down style beanie. That was the first top down hat pattern I ever designed. So I felt challenged this year to create another top down hat.

About this top down crochet beanie
Lets first talk about the yarn and the colors of this hat.
The colors of this hat are Burgundy (Garnet Heather) and Ivory (Picket Fence Heather). These colors represent Head/Neck cancer. That is the type of cancer I wanted to represent this year for this challenge.
The yarn used has become such a favorite to work with. The yarn is We Crochet Wool of the Andes Tweed.
This yarn is a worsted weight #4. It comes in so many different colors and works up very nicely. This yarn is 80% Peruvian Highland Wool, 20% Donegal Tweed.

The main stitches used in this crochet chemo hat are double crochet and half double crochet.
Some other stitches and techniques used are front post stitches, following instructions for 2 special stitches, working in the round and working in the back loop only.
This pattern is written in just 1 adult size that fits a circumference of 21.5 – 23 inches. It is not very easy to adjust size for this specific pattern. But you can always try a different yarn or a different hook size to have a slight adjustment of the sizing of the hat.

I hope you are able to make a few of these crochet chemo hats to donate to a cancer center or to a cancer patient.
